🛡️ Visibility Settings — First-Time Setup

When you first open BuddyDoggie, you go through a guided setup where you choose exactly how visible you are to other players. Nothing is shared by default — you opt into every level of discovery.

Visibility Modes

You can change any of these settings at any time from the app's Settings menu. Your preferences are stored locally and synced only when you choose.

🧠 Your Personality Profile — You're in Control

BuddyDoggie's AI generates a personality profile based on your chat patterns with your dog. This profile is used to create hints that other players see when you meet through StreetPass.

You have full control over this profile. The AI's assessment is a starting point, not a permanent label. You can review and suggest changes at any time.

How to Edit Your Personality

• Review your profile — Open Settings > Personality to see all AI-detected traits and the reasoning behind them
• Suggest corrections — If a trait doesn't feel right, tap it to suggest a change. You can explain why, and the AI will re-evaluate
• Add new traits — Feel the AI missed something? You can add custom traits that better describe your style of play and communication
• Hide traits from StreetPass — Even if a trait is accurate, you can choose not to include it in the hints shared with other players
• Reset and start fresh — If you want the AI to re-analyze from scratch, you can clear your personality history at any time

Your personality profile is never used for advertising, profiling, or third-party sharing. It exists solely to enrich the StreetPass experience — helping you find people you might genuinely connect with.

📊 What Data We Collect

We collect the minimum data needed to make BuddyDoggie work and keep improving it:

• Anonymous Pet ID — A one-way hashed identifier for your dog, used only for StreetPass exchanges
• Chat messages — Stored locally on your device; only synced to our servers when you open the app with internet access, for personality analysis
• StreetPass encounter logs — Stored locally, recording when and where (street name only, no GPS coordinates) you met other players
• Game scores and progress — Stored locally, synced optionally to the cloud for backup

🚫 What We Don't Do

• Transmit your GPS location — proximity is estimated from BLE signal strength only
• Share your name, email, phone number, or any personal identifiers in advertisements
• Sell or share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing
• Use your chat content for any purpose other than generating your own personality profile
• Allow other players to see your real identity unless you choose to share it

📡 StreetPass Privacy Details

• BLE advertisement packets contain only anonymous pet ID, species code, and level (~20 bytes)
• Full pet card exchange requires mutual discovery — both devices must see each other
• Encounter data is never broadcast, shared publicly, or accessible outside the app
• You can pause StreetPass at any time from Settings — no data is collected while paused
• If you set your visibility to "Offline", no BLE signals are sent or received

🛡️ Content Safety & AI Moderation

BuddyDoggie uses an in-house trained AI model to monitor conversations and keep the platform safe, especially for our younger users. Here's how it works:

What We Screen For

• Hate speech, harassment, threats, or targeted abuse
• Sexually explicit or age-inappropriate content
• Self-harm or violence promotion
• Sharing of personal information (names, addresses, phone numbers) by minors
• Grooming behaviour or predatory communication patterns

How Flagging Works

Important Disclaimers

• AI detection is not a verdict. Our model is designed to catch potential issues, but it can produce false positives. That's why every flag goes through human review before any consequence.
• No automated punishments. We do not use AI to automatically ban, mute, or restrict accounts. A human moderator must approve every enforcement action.
• Context matters. Moderators review full conversation threads, not isolated messages, to understand intent and tone before deciding.
• Appeals are always available. If action is taken against your account, you can appeal and request a second human review.
• Our model is trained in-house. Unlike platforms that rely on third-party moderation APIs, BuddyDoggie's safety model is purpose-built for our community's needs, with fewer false positives and better cultural awareness.
• Offline mode is not monitored. Conversations that happen in offline mode (on-device only) are never scanned, flagged, or reviewed by anyone.

Our commitment: We believe AI should assist human moderators, not replace them. Technology makes mistakes; people understand context. Every enforcement decision is made by a human being.

📴 Fully Offline Mode — Zero Data Collection

If you prefer to keep everything on your device, BuddyDoggie lets you download on-device AI models and play entirely offline. No internet connection required, no data sent anywhere.

What Offline Mode Means

• Chat stays on-device — All conversations with your dog are processed locally by the downloaded model and never leave your phone
• No personality profiling — Without cloud sync, no AI-generated personality profile is created or shared
• No StreetPass — BLE advertising is disabled, so you won't discover or be discovered by other players while offline
• No analytics or telemetry — We receive zero data about your usage, session length, or interactions
• Games work fully offline — Fetch Frenzy and all local features are available without any network connection
• You can switch back anytime — Going online again re-enables cloud features; nothing from your offline sessions is uploaded retroactively

Offline mode is our strongest privacy guarantee. If you want the full BuddyDoggie experience with absolutely no data leaving your device, this is the way.

✊ Your Rights

• Access — Request a copy of all data we hold about your account
• Correction — Suggest changes to your AI-generated personality profile at any time
• Deletion — Delete your account and all associated data permanently
• Pause — Suspend StreetPass discovery and data collection without deleting your account
• Export — Download your chat history, personality profile, and StreetPass logs
